Meet K.D. Emerson: Author, Great Friend and Mentor

- 30 October 2013, 02:10

While usually Author interviews on Heal Yourself Magazine are in the health and wellness industry. Today I am writing this post for a dear friend who truly saved my life and helped me get on my own path to healing….without her truly I do believe Heal Yourself  Talk Radio, and Heal Yourself  Magazine would not be here….

I first met K.D. Emerson about 8 years ago when I was going through a very rough patch in my life. So bad in fact that I was contemplating suicide. Now don’t get the wrong idea about me however things were horrible then. I was going through such a DEEP DEPRESSION, and no one around me noticed it at all. Here is what happened:

My MIL had just passed, and with a lot more of personal details then I feel comfortable sharing in public, my life started to totally spin out of control. I have dealt with depression since I was in my early teens. I can put on a very brave face, so it really isn’t hard to see how no one could see just how deep down into my depression I had gone. One morning I put the kids on the bus, said goodbye to my husband when he went to work, logged onto my computer to write emails to friends, and family. I posted on a website called Ryze, a very popular online social networking site back then, long before Facebook had become popular. An online friend named Ginger, read my posts and she felt something was very wrong. She called me up and I just said “I am fine, don’t worry about me” and I must have said something else because she freaked out and said let me call a good friend of mine to talk with you. At that moment I truly wanted to hang up. I didn’t want help, I didn’t want anyone to know how far I had sunk down into my depression nor what I was thinking about doing, but something told me to just “humor” her to get her off the phone….so I waited. A couple minutes later a woman came on the other end with Ginger, and introduced herself to me as Kim. Ginger said she was going to go, as she felt we should talk alone.

I had never met this woman, had no idea what in the world I was going to say to her. Kim just said “Hello. My name is Kim. How are you doing?” for some odd reason those few words made my heart and mouth open up. I started talking to her spilling the beans about what had been going on, how alone and afraid I was feeling, and how I was truly at my ropes end and wanted to just leave this life. SEE I am NOT a quitter but so much was going on in my personal life I felt I had no control, I was very “weak” back then. I hadn’t found my voice yet, and I was afraid to stand up to my personal bullies. After talking with Kim for over 30 minutes my heart melted and I felt like my strength was coming back. There is much more to this story however I will say here and NOW that Kim Mutch Emerson (a.k.a. K.D. Emerson) saved me that day! I truly had my keys in my hand, was going to get in the car and find a way to leave this earth. I felt so alone, so scared and had no more will to live….no one else seemed to care about me at that time. They all had their own issues they were dealing with or looking at me for answers which I could not provide….

Kim is the one who eventually talked me into starting a podcast which is now known across the world as Heal Yourself  Talk Radio. It was her suggestion to open up and share what I was dealing with in my depression, and fighting Lupus….neither of us knew what was in store for us over the upcoming years. Kim and I have worked on several projects together, and just recently, a little over a year ago we became partners of a small publishing house called Master Koda Select Publishing. I am enjoying every minute of being a partner with Master Koda Select Publishing and watching authors take off spreading their wings, and seeing the joys on line when they are sharing their book covers, their stories, and more.

To think that one day of total misery for myself would turn a corner so large and open up so many doors, even today is surprising :)

The reason I share all of  our “past history” between Kim and myself is because I know without a shadow of a doubt in my mind, she SAVED me that day. She is one of several reasons I went on to become who I am today…she has always believed in me, she always and still to this day will say “You are made for greatness. You do not need to take crap from anyone. Just be you.”

ONE person CAN make a difference in another’s life. Kim Mutch Emerson is a great example of how waking up at 5 am to take a phone call, and talking to a complete stranger could change the future….even now when life tends to throw me for a loop and I feel I cannot handle it, there is Kim! Cheering me on, being a mother hen or as others online that know her call her the Mamma Koda Bear, and then telling me to just stand up for myself and know that I am worth it!

Thank you Kim for all that you have done and all that you do! Happy Birthday today too!

We asked K.D. Emerson if she could go back in time to when she was seven years old, what wisdom or advice would she pass on to herself?

Don’t you dare put that pen down! No matter what anyone says, no matter how impractical it might seem, don’t put the pen down because when you get older there will be people that love your style and your writing will make a difference in their lives.

My favorite character from Digitus 233 is _________. How did you come up with that character?

All my characters are created from the dark corners of my mind with a little snippet of their personality inspired by a real person. So no matter whom your favorite character is in one of my books you will know there is someone real hidden in there somewhere. It’s up to the reader to figure out what that snippet is.

One thing I have been dying to ask, why did you end Digitus 233 with such a horrifying cliff hanger? It made me want to scream! I sat and thought about possibilities for a long time after finishing the novel.
Well, you just hit the answer to your own question right on the head. I wanted my readers to scream out and then I wanted them to use their own imagination to come up with their own possible ending. In book two I will share my conclusion with them and then we can compare how close we came in to having the same resolution.

What is a short synopsis for Digitus 233?

digitus-iphone
A group of teens are caught in a web of deceit. Will they break free of the world’s controlling power or are they doomed to die trying?
