What is a Spiritual Life Like Today?

- 12 November 2008, 02:11

This is such a personal road to travel.  You might have been brought up in a traditional religion at a church, synagogue, mosque, or temple with your family.  You might have gone to a Catholic School, or taken Sunday School classes.  This may or not be the way you have followed your spiritual path for the rest of your life.

I was brought up Catholic, and attended Catholic School from 4th to 8th grade.  As a teen, I began attending Assembly of God churches and was enlightened to the spiritual healing and other spiritual gifts offered there.  In college I studied Tibetan Buddhism and found peace and loving kindness in the others that I met through meditation and practice.  I was ordained as a Protestant minister, and worked in an international missions organization.  I became a teacher for the Pranic Healing organization and learned about spiritual practices from around the world, and traditions based on Arhatic Yoga.  I have had quite an eclectic experience!  I have studied many other traditions such as the Kabbalah.

Over the years, I have become very comfortable with the ideas that we are all heading in the same direction.  There is a path of light, and love, and there are many ways to get there.  When I am counseling a client, I usually ask them about their spiritual background and training.  This gives me an idea about their comfort level with ideas and their confidence with their place in the world.  It doesn’t matter who they learned from, or which group trained them.  There is a place of honor and respect for all religious paths that teach about love, honor, healing, kindness, and more.

If you have found yourself trailing away from your path of spirituality, it may be time to rekindle that connection.  You may want to go back to the place that you started as a child.  You may want to explore new traditions and cultures.  In any case, it is a noble pursuit.  We cannot be whole without some balance for our spiritual selves as well.

For some people, their spiritual sense is just of themselves.  For some, there is a strictly defined path.  What is your belief?  What is your sense of the world?  What has happened to the people that you have loved who have passed on?  Do you feel or sense things outside of yourself?

There is so much out there for you to learn and experience.  We are never finished learning and expanding, even after we are passed to the other side.  In some traditions, we are told that we will come back again to experience life again.  What feels right to you.

Feel comfortable exploring your nature, the nature of the universe, and asking the questions that you always wanted to ask.  This is the time!
